Digital cards did not replace print, but they have altered the purpose of print.
Every year or two, someone declares that the paper business card is obsolete. However, this has not happened, and it's important to understand why. A business card is a tangible object that is exchanged during a moment of introduction. Nothing on a phone screen can replicate this experience. What has changed is that a business card now often needs to link to something digital. However, there are multiple ways to do this poorly.

Where the link should point

- A page on your own domain. You control it, you can redirect it, and it will outlive any particular service.
- A digital profile service. Convenient and quick to set up, but you are dependent on that company continuing to exist and continuing to be free.
- A direct contact file download. Adds the details straight to a phone, but offers nothing else and cannot be updated.
- A social profile. Fine as a secondary link, poor as the only one.
